On January 19th thousands of people marched up Capitol Hill, determined to protest the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. Among the massive throng were 26 humanists and priests from Cheshire, CT.
Our day started at 4:30 AM in a house in Virginia. At 5:10 AM, we started out for the Capitol One arena in downtown DC. When we arrived, the stadium was almost empty. We watched it filled over the next two hours of music and testimonies until almost every one of the 20,000 seats was full. Then mass started. It was celebrated by Cardinal Donald Wuerl and the music was provided by a Christian rock band called Out of Darkness.
After mass, we headed out to the National Mall, which was a 15-minute walk away. There we heard several talks, including the speech given by Donald trump.
When it as almost time to start marching we headed to Constitution Avenue and met up with the rest of our Regnum Christi family. Excitement was all around us. We heard it in the constant chants, speckled here and there by drumbeats or music. The joy present there was contagious. And when we started to march it broke out into a shout of delight. We were marching for around three hours.
After the March we returned to the house in Virginia, exhausted but happy.
