“Remember, man, that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” With these words on his lips, Fr. David Daly (rector) formed a cross of ashes on the forehead of each Legionary brother during the Mass of Ash Wednesday, initiating the liturgical season of Lent. In a spirit of reparation, the Legionaries fasted throughout the day and abstained from meat, upholding the traditions and norms of the Catholic Church. A small group of brothers also drove the two hours from the seminary to New York City to help distribute ashes and to invite Catholics on the bustling streets to drop by Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral to say a prayer and receive an ashen cross on their brow.
