“Welcome to
Lumen Institute: Enlightening leaders, pursuing excellence, influencing culture,” their webpage reads at the very top. This notice is followed by their ambitious mission: “to further enhance the character, faith, and leadership skills of today’s business and cultural leaders and their families.” This is what a few Legionary priests and some business men that form the Lumen chapter of New York are up to in the bustling, fast-paced, secular world of Manhattan.
On April 3, the brothers took the two-hour commute to Manhattan in order to witness firsthand what a Legionary priest working in the Lumen Institute does and to hear the way in which spiritual guidance aids businessmen in the challenge to live their faith in the business world.
“The truth is that we all need Christ,” said one of the Lumen members as he reminded us that Mother Theresa had called New York the “poorest city,” because of its lack of Christ. Lumen Institute hopes to do its small part of bringing Christ to the Big City. Witnessing this was an inspiration for the brothers to continue their formation in order to someday go out and evangelize any place where Christ is needed.
