Last year Pope Francis gave an eloquent summary of Catholic higher education today in an address to the International Federation of Catholic Universities.
“Education in general, but university education in particular, is not only about filling the head with concepts. Three kinds of language are needed, and all three languages need to come into play: the language of the mind, the language of the heart and the language of the hands. We need to think in harmony with what we feel and what we do, to feel in harmony with what we think and do, and to act in harmony with what we feel and think. An overall harmony, never divorced from the whole.”
This harmonic, or integrated education, is what we strive to give our Legionary students. Achieving an integral formation is crucial to those who seek the full joy of the truth, and above all to future priests, who are called to be transformed by this truth and bring its Light to those they minister to. In this way the Legion of Christ College seeks to contribute to a culture of life, goodness, truth, and beauty.
We are all part of this mission, and so I welcome you to our college, to our home, and to our religious family. I hope you will take a look at our website and use it to learn more about our mission and values. It gives a simple glimpse into who we are, what we are about, and the priestly formation our institution offers.
As President-Rector, I thank you for your support and invite you to join us in this exciting task of evangelization. I ask you for your prayers that we might be faithful to our mission and always attentive to what the Lord is asking of us. Know that all the brothers are praying for you, and if you have any special intentions, please send them our way. Lastly, if you are ever in the area feel free to stop by for a visit, we would love to get to know you.
